Tapestries have held a fascination for Alex Friedman over many years. She will talk about the arc of her many tapestries starting from the very abstract to the hyper realistic and then back to abstract again with dimension and embellishments. Alex has drawn influence from some of the master classes she has taken as well as looking at the tapestries of other artists. She has explored dimension and texture as well as breaking away from some of the tapestry traditions. It has been a wonderful and thought-provoking journey that she will share with you. About the Speaker: Born in San Francisco, Alex Friedman has been weaving tapestries for over 40 years. She began her career by working in a NYC workshop on a set of shaped tapestries for a fleet of Pan Am 747 jumbo jets. Since then, she has created numerous tapestries including commissions for corporate, liturgical, and private clients. She has been involved with many fiber related organizations including ATA, TWW, and the Textile Arts Council at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Her award-winning art, known for the dynamic colors and dimensional surface design have been exhibited internationally. She maintains a studio at the ICB in the Sausalito, California and welcomes inquiries and visitors. https://www.alexfriedmantapestry.com

This is a great opportunity for folks who enjoy working with wool and other fibers to get together and create new things while visiting with others who share the same passion. New to the fine art of spinning? JOIN US! This is a great way to learn new tricks from those that have some more experience. Oh, and did I mention that this is all happening at Stehekin Valley Ranch – where fabulous vistas and amazing food abound! It just doesn’t get any better than that!! Stay in the coveted Ranch House! This large house with amazing views will be the base for this year’s rendezvous. The house has 3 large bedrooms – each with two separate beds and their own private bathroom. It also has fantastic open living space which is the perfect gathering spot for spinning and other fun projects. Additional cabins will be available as needed. All meals will still be provided in the cookhouse nearby, and participants of the rendezvous are welcome to use all the public spaces and amenities of the Ranch. This Year’s Project: Fiber Salad Back by popular demand, we will be doing another “Fiber Salad” this year. This is a great way to use up some of your random scraps of fleece, and get some fun and unique fiber to spin up for your next project. How it works: Bring your scraps of fleece – get creative – the more colors we get the more fun we can have with this project! We will weigh your contributions before adding them to the mix Pick out an equal weight of material from the “salad” mix of everyone’s contributions Spin it up into a fun new yarn! More details and registration on the web site! https://stehekinvalleyranch.com/stehekin-spinning-rendezvous/
