Instructor: Charan Sachar Want to create a dynamic, colorful, ever changing scrap sock yarn blanket or a larger project that keeps you going? Using just your scraps of sock yarn, learn how to create magic multicolor yarn cakes in different colors. We will categorize your yarns, cut them up and rejoin them to make colorful yarn cakes which can be used for bigger projects like the seashell yarn blanket ($10 pattern included in registration fee). Prerequisites: Students should be able to knit and purl Things to bring to class: Pair of US size 7 or 8 needles (whichever you like to use with worsted weight yarn) At least 200gms of scrap sock/fingering weight yarn–more is better! If you come with more yarn, you will leave with more. Optional: If you have a digital scale, bring one along! Yarn from all students will be mixed to increase variety in your resulting yarn. Bring all and any colors. Brights, neutrals, variegated– no scrap is too small or too ugly! Yarns will be cut up further so do not bring full skeins, do not go shopping.

Instructor: Charan Sachar Thick and thin yarns are great when it comes to creating textured yarns and are one of my favorites to spin. In this full day class, you will learn to spin thick and thin yarns with the intention of plying them into something magical. Using the thick and thin singles we will explore how to create Beehives, fishnets (2-ply crepe), and Rosebuds. When you leave the class you’ll be able to add these techniques to your creative spinning repertoire. We will take a lunch break from 12-1:00. Bring a sack lunch, or get lunch off-site. Materials Fee: $35, included with registration, includes top and ply thread. Prerequisites: Students should be familiar with their wheel, able to spin a continuous thread and make a plied yarn. Equipment Requirements: Student will need to bring the following to class– Wheel with a large orfice (1/2” or more) to accommodate textured yarns. (Most yarns are doable by regular orfice wheels as well, but require hand winding the yarn on the bobbin.) For most classes 2-3 bobbins, or ability to wind off bobbins on storage bobbins to ply. Lazy kate Pen, Paper to take notes Niddy noddy and any additional spinning tools students prefer.
